Health Science Scholarships Australia 2016 – 2017

 

1) Arthritis Australia :Arthritis Australia National Research Program 2016/ 2017

About: Applications for grants valued between $10,000 and $50,000 for one year are now sought to be used for research into the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of arthritis.

The objectives of the research and professional education program are:
  • To support specific research projects into arthritis and other musculoskeletal disorders
  •  To support and foster the career development of scientists and clinical investigators committed to research into arthritis and allied disorders
Field of study: Health Science
Eligibility: Awards are available to clinical, scientific and allied health professionals who are Australian citizens or permanent residents. Scholarships, fellowships and grants may only be held in universities, hospitals or recognised research institutes.

2) Richard Charles Carroll Scholarship 2016/ 2017

About: Established in 1998 as a tangible memorial to Richard Carroll, son of one of the founding members of the University Senate, who died in an accident at Luna Park in 1979, aged 13 years.
Field of study: Bachelor of Exercise and Health Science
Eligibility: This scholarship is open to applicants who meet all of the following criteria:

  • Undertaking the Bachelor of Exercise and Health Science
  • Studying at the Strathfield Campus
  • Second year of course (part time equivalent)

The following documents must be submitted with the application:

  • Academic transcript
  • Evidence of the applicant’s contribution to and/or leadership in his/her commitment to the ethos of ACU through community service (http://www.acu.edu.au/study_at_acu/courses/scholarships_and_financial_support/helpful_hints)
  • Recipients are requested to submit a letter of appreciation for the donor explaining how the Scholarship has assisted them. The letter should be submitted to the Scholarships Office no later than 1 October of each year. (http://www.acu.edu.au/455509)

3) Conference Scholarship for Students 2016/ 2017

About: The School of Health Sciences Conference Scholarship provides financial support for students to present papers or posters at local or international conferences with the aim to facilitate student dissemination of new knowledge and provide student networking opportunities.

4) Grace Groom Memorial Scholarship 2016/ 2017

University Name: The Australian National University, Canberra
About: The Grace Groom Memorial Scholarship has been established from a donation by the Mental Health Australia Ltd in memory of Grace Groom.
The purpose of the Scholarship is to provide financial support to international or domestic postgraduate students enrolled in study and research relating to mental health issues. Applicants may be enrolled in any research program within the ANU College of Medicine, Biology and Environment (CMBE). Their research program should have meaningful and real application to the daily lives of people with a mental illness and/or the people who care for them.
Field of study: Mental health
Eligibility: In order to be considered for the Scholarship, an applicant must:

  • be enrolled in a graduate research program offered within the ANU College of Medicine, Biology & Environment; and
  • be already undertaking study in a mental health related field.
    Applicants with a lived experience of mental illness (including as a carer) are encouraged to apply.

How to apply: The Scholarship application must include:

  • A statement briefly describing the applicant’s research, how it will improve the lives of consumers and/or carers, how the scholarship would be used and how this relates to the applicant’s project.
  • A budget and budget justification endorsed by the applicant’s supervisor.
  • The applicant’s curriculum vitae.
  • A brief statement of support from the applicant’s supervisor.

More information: The scholarship funds must be expended within 1 year of award, and within the program enrolment of the recipient.
Scholars will be required to provide a report, to be incorporated in the Alumni Relations and Philanthropy office report to the Donor, no later than the 30th October, following the Scholarship period. The report will outline the progress of their project and the impact of the Scholarship on achieving the progress.

6) Indigenous Health Scholarship Applications 2016/ 2017

University Name: Australian Rotary Health
About: The objects of this program is:

  • to provide a scholarship, which can be used to assist Indigenous students to undertake a course in a wide range of health related professions.
  • to assist students to gain an education which will in turn enable them to use this education for the benefit of other Indigenous people in some of our remote areas.
  • with the intention of training doctors to work amongst other Indigenous people, but the scope of the scheme has enlarged to permit the training, firstly of nurses, and now other health related profession.

The annual value of the scholarship is $5,000 per year
Payable in two equal parts through your attending university
Field of study: Health Science
Eligibility:

  • the student must have completed at least 2 years of current medical course/or at least 1 year in other health related courses
  • the student is able to supply all documentation pertaining to application:
    • Curriculum Vitae
    • Supporting Documentation
    • Essay titled “How will you contribute to improving Indigenous Health as a qualified medical practitioner or health work?”

7) Bupa Health And Wellness Scholarship 2016/ 2017

University Name: Flinders University
About: Bupa is a leading healthcare organisation in Australia which offers personal and corporate health insurance, runs care homes for older people and hospitals, and provides workplace health services, health assessments and chronic disease management services, including health coaching and home healthcare.
The aim of the Bupa Health and Wellness scholarship is to support students, based on academic merit, studying in the field of nutrition and dietetics.
Field of study: health sciences
Eligibility: Applicants must:

  • be Australian citizens or permanent residents of Australia; and
  • normally reside in South Australia; and
  • be undertaking a Bachelor of Nutrition and Dietetics and have completed 108 units; or
  • be undertaking a Master of Nutrition and Dietetics and have completed 36 units.

How to apply: All eligible students will be considered for this scholarship. Applications are not required.
