1) Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (ATSI) Law Student Scholarship 2016/ 2017

About: Established in 2012 at the Newcastle Law School 20 Year Anniversary Alumni dinner, this scholarship aims to assist Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (ATSI) students wishing to pursue a career in Law.
Field of study: Business and Law
Eligibility: Applicable to: ATSI, Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islanders, Indigenous, Law students, high achievers.
To be eligible to apply for this scholarship you must meet the following criteria:

  • Be enrolled in any year of a Law undergraduate degree program
  • Identify as an Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and be recognised as such by your community
  • Be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • Be enrolled full-time.

  • A written statement outling career aspirations in Law (2 x A4 Pages)
  • A written reference made by an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community member

2) Change 100 Lives – Faculty of Business and Law Final Year Hardship Scholarship 2016/ 2017

University Name: Deakin University
About: This Change 100 Lives Faculty of Business and Law Hardship scholarship will provide an opportunity to a final year students who, because of financial constraints or social disadvantage is facing barriers to completing their university studies.
Field of study: Business and Law
Eligibility: To be eligible for this award you must be:

  •  an Australian citizen or holder of an Australian permanent humanitarian visa
  • a continuing student enrolled in their final year of an undergraduate bachelor degree in the Faculty of Business and Law at Deakin University in Trimester 2
  • enrolled full time in a Commonwealth supported place
  • able to demonstrate an area of financial hardship or social disadvantage

How to apply: You must complete an online application via the Deakin Course and Scholarship Applicant Portal (https://applicantportal.deakin.edu.au/connect/webconnect) by the closing date.
As part of the application process you will also be required to provide supporting documentation. You should email your supporting documentation with your applicant portal id number in the subject line to scholarship-docs@deakin.edu.au no later than the closing date of the scholarship.

Late or incomplete documentation will not be accepted.
The supporting documentation required includes evidence of: your financial hardship or your social disadvantage.

3) AGS UNSW Indigenous Law Scholarship 2016/ 2017

University Name: UNSW Sydney
About: The AGS UNSW Indigenous Law Scholarship was established by the AGS (Australian Government Solicitor), to provide a scholarship to an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander UNSW student. The scholarship is made up of $7,000 to be provided to the student as well as an offer of casual employment for the term of the scholarship.
It is intended that the financial support of the scholarship and the opportunity of employment with AGS will enable the scholarship recipient to focus on his or her studies, gain the maximum benefit of the experiences offered at UNSW and gain valuable administrative work experience in a legal environment.
The scholarship will be provided to an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander student enrolled (full-time) in third year or above undergraduate Law program or in second year or third year of a Juris Doctor Program.
In addition to the Scholarship amount, AGS will offer the scholarship recipient an opportunity to undertake casual paid employment with AGS in an administrative role. That employment will be governed by and subject to an employment contract entered into between the student and AGS.
The scholarship recipient may be offered a graduate position with AGS upon graduation from UNSW, but such an offer is not guaranteed. The scholarship recipient is not obliged to accept an offer of a graduate position with AGS, should AGS make that offer.
Field of study: Law
Eligibility: To be eligible for this scholarship an applicant must:

  • Be an indigenous student of Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent;
  • Identify as an Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander; and be accepted as an Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander in the community in which he or she lives;
  • Be a full-time student in third year or higher of an undergraduate program leading to the award of a Bachelor of Laws at UNSW; or be a full-time student in second or third year of a Juris Doctor degree at UNSW;
  • Not normally hold any other scholarship or award (except for Youth Allowance/Austudy/Abstudy or other equity scholarship) except with the permission of the UNSW Scholarship office; and
  • Have obtained a Pass grade or better in all courses of their degree.

4) MASTER OF LAWS (LLM) SCHOLARSHIP 2016/ 2017

About: This annual scholarship was established in 2013 to provide up to four students per year with a $4,000 reduction in the tuition fees for the coursework Master of Laws (LLM) program.
Field of study: Business and Law
Eligibility: To be eligible to apply for this scholarship you must meet the following criteria:

  • Be enrolled in the Master of Laws (LLM) program in the Faculty of Business and Law
  • Be enrolled in the first year of the program of study
  • Be enrolled full-time.
  • Not hold another scholarship for the same program
  • Be an International student

5) HUNTER RESEARCH FOUNDATION AND NEWCASTLE BUSINESS SCHOOL ROBIN MCDONALD SCHOLARSHIP 2016/ 2017

About: This scholarship was established in 2009 to commemorate the role Robin Mcdonald played in communicating economic issues to the Hunter Region community and her leadership role at the Hunter Research Foundation (HRF). It was funded solely by HRF until 2014.
Field of study: Business and Law
Eligibility: To be eligible to apply for this scholarship you must meet the following criteria:

  • Be enrolled full time in an Honours or an RHD program within the UON Business School or has completed an Honours degree or is planning to enrol in a RHD program
  • Demonstrate academic achievement through a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 5.0 or higher
  • Be completing research on a topic developed and agreed upon by the UON Business School representatives in consultation with the HRF. This research must benefit the Hunter Region and the advancement of its members
  • Be willing to present their research findings at a HRF event or function in consultation with UON Business School during the 12 month scholarship period
  • Not have previously received this scholarship.
  • Not be the recipient of another UoN Donor funded or sponsored scholarship concurrently.
  • Be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident

6) UNIVERSITY OF WOLLONGONG UNDERGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP – LAW, HUMANITIES AND ARTS 2016/ 2017

University Name: University of Wollongong
About: Faculty scholarships recognise high-achieving students at UOW. Scholarship recipients are expected to fulfil an ambassadorial role for the faculty by actively participating in Faculty-hosted events and become committee members of the Faculty’s Student and Staff Association.
Field of study: Law, Humanities and Arts.
Eligibility: applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Must enrol in a full-time degree or double degree offered by the Faculty of Law, Humanities and the Arts
  • Outstanding academic achievement based on most recent academic records
  • Motivation and interests, particularly in relation to nominated UOW degree and career path
  • Communication and interpersonal skills
  • Evidence of leadership and participation in other areas, e.g. school and community activities, the arts, employment, sports
  • A minimum ATAR of 95*
